Why did you choose the Univ. of Chicago for your residency training?  I was impressed with the enthusiasm, rigor, and curiosity of the residents and staff. I also loved the setting and the idea of working in Hyde Park. Ultimately, though, it was a gut feeling that the Univ. of Chicago is where I wanted to be.

Why did you choose Anesthesiology?  Like many anesthesiologists, I found that I was drawn to sicker patients and critical care. When I did my anesthesia rotations, I found that I was having the most fun I had had my entire medical school career and I couldn't wait to go to work in the morning (that wasn't the case for a few other rotations). I love the balance of procedures and intellectual work - thinking through preop, anticipating problems, and working efficiently as part of a team. It is the only career I could imagine loving.

Best thing about the Univ. of Chicago?  Fantastic residents, staff, and students. You have a lot incredibly smart people here who are also genuinely kind. The Univ. of Chicago also has an ethos of always striving to make things even better.

Where do you live in Chicago (area of the city) and if you like that area, why?  I live in Hyde Park. It's a wonderful place to live 1) It's one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Chicago, 2) It's the greenest neighborhood in Chicago, 3) It has a vibrant cultural scene 4) Gorgeous views near the lake, 5) I can bike to a from work.
