Why did you choose the Univ. of Chicago for your residency training?
A number of factors made U of C my top choice for residency. I am interested in critical care and the ICU training here stood out significantly from similar programs. Anesthesiology "runs" our SICU and CTICU, so we have the opportunity to learn critical care as specifically practiced by Anesthesiologists at the top of their field. Ultimately though, the decision came down to my interview experience and the intangible sense of belonging I felt amongst the residents and faculty whom I met. There is a real sense of community in the OR from our amazing anesthesia techs up to the department leadership. Additionally our faculty are consistently committed to resident education. Where do you live in Chicago (area of the city) and if you like that area, why?
Ukranian Village I live with my significant other (internal medicine resident at UIC) in a 2 bedroom apartment and we love it. It has a residential feel with lots of greenery but there are also tons of things to do in the immediate area. I drive to work (20 minutes in the morning, ~40 minutes afternoon).
